Welcome to Word in Hand!
Welcome to Word in Hand Press, where we publish and talk about books worth living with.
ABOUT WHIPART & CRAFT OF BOOKS

The best books are the ones we carry with us long after we’ve closed the cover. They shape our imaginations as children, challenge our thinking as adults, and somehow seem to have something new to say every time we return to them.
These are the books that inspire us at Word in Hand Press. Our mission is simple: to both publish and celebrate books worth living with. Well-crafted, carefully curated books that readers return to again and again; new or old, written by one of our authors or published elsewhere.
The Stacks are our essays and articles discussing children’s literature, storytelling, reading, publishing, language, and the books that have earned a permanent place on our shelves. We’ll recommend books we admire, explore what makes stories memorable, occasionally pull back the curtain on the publishing process, and share the delightful surprises that come with creating books from the ground up.
You’ll also find occasional announcements about our own new releases here, along with behind-the-scenes glimpses of works in progress and life inside a small independent press.
If you love books as much as we do, you’re among friends.
